Portugal: Top destination for hotel investment (Hospitality Investor)
Portugal was ranked as the fourth most searched travel destination globally in 2023, coming in fifth in Europe in terms of total hotel investment.
Portugal also ranked 16th worldwide (9th in Europe) in the 2021 Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (WEF).
According to MSCI (Morgan Stanley Capital International), over a 24-month period until the end of 2023, 85% of hotel asset buyers and 35% of real estate developers were foreign investors.
Portugal’s attractiveness to foreign investors is based mainly on:
– Strategic location
– Business-friendly environment
– Quality of life, social stability and security
– Transport infrastructure
– Lisbon as a global technology hub
Although Lisbon and Porto remain attractive investment areas, there is significant potential in other regions, such as the Algarve, Alentejo, Centre, Madeira and the Azores.
